Felicitación del Màxim Muñoz, cmf, Superior Provincial de los Claretianos de Cataluña (España)

MISSIONERS CLARETIANS
PROVÍNCIA DE CATALUNYA
GOVERN PROVINCIAL

¿o no?

Letter of Stanislaw Cardinal Ryłko. President of the Pontifical Council for the Laity

PONTIFICIUM CONSILIUM
PRO LAICIS
1156/08/S-61/B 41

Dear Sir:

I’m glad to send you as General Secretary, Greetings for all the members of the Claretian Secular’s Movement that are celebrating this July, 8th 2008, the 25th anniversary of our foundation.

For you, Claretian Seculars, that are looking to manifest your adhesion to Christ through the spirit of your founder and inspire, St. Antonio María Claret, this celebration is very meaningful. Twenty five years of peregrination, a checkpoint that invites you to thank God for all the Gifts and Bless that happened in your lives and in your Movement. Its also a chance of renew and projection to the future: you, Claretian Seculars, identified by Christ Missioner, feel the urgency to get the call of Christ to extend the Kingdom of God and meet the human being in all the possible scenarios. This requires a continuous formation in the faith and coherency of Christian life, to answer properly to all the actual culture tendencies that are against the dignity of the people, created as image of God. About how can we answer to so many challenges that overpass the own human strength, the Pope Benedictus XVI cheer us not to loose the hope and offer us a bighting key: « We could count a lot of problems that exist nowadays and is precise to solve, but all of them only can be solved if God is in the middle, if God is visible in our life and comes into the world in a decisive way through us » (BENEDICTO XVI, Homily to the bishops of Switzerland , November, 7th 2006).

Every apostolic Project must have God in the middle. Your founder, St. Antonio María Claret, called himself “apostolic missioner”, understanding that definition as a gift that configures the Christian with some particular things in the mystery of Christ (cfr. Principles, 3). Christ, in all his apostolic action, was inspired and moved by the Holy Spirit of love. The Spirit is also the source of the mission of the Church who gives to the Christian the happiness and the care for the evangelization (cfr. Lc 4,18-19). That’s why the few references to the Holy Spirit that can be read in our Principles have to be for you a continuous reference for your thoughts and action: live the existence moved under the inspirations of the Spirit that allows to put God in the middle of our apostolic mission and carry the love of Christ to the people with an affective and effective charity.

A second element, quite important to the society nowadays and with a great importance is the style of your apostolic mission, your purpose of offering the experience of the faith lived in community. The community focused in the Lord Jesus is a privileged medium itself to announce the Gospel in a selfish world, where the persons live more lonely. You’ve made yours the words: « Anyone can grow alone, as anyone can live alone. Anyone has given himself the faith, as anyone has given the life himself. (…) Each believer is like a link in the big chain of the believers. I can’t believe without being hold by the faith of the others, and by my faith I help to hold the faith of the others » (Catholic Church Catechism, n. 166).

I want to end this small greet and felicitation looking straight to María, Mother of Christ and Mother of the Church, which St Antonio María Claret had a great devotion and which had an specific presence in his apostolic mission. Your founder felt formed in the forge of love of María. Make yours the feelings of your founder that felt formed in the forge of love of María. He didn’t see himself as a main character of the apostolic mission, but he was an instrument of his holy maternity. María was present always in his life and in his missioner predication by saying: «Holy María is my Mother, my Teacher, my Guide and my everything after Jesus » ( Cfr. S. ANTONIO MARÍA CLARET, Self biography, n. 5). With the same spirit, leave yourself be formed by the maternal love of the Virgin María, so you can feel strongly that your apostolic action and your testimony is a conclusion of the spiritual mother María.

The Pontifice Council for the Lays cheers you to go on with your evangelizing labor with decision, bravery and creativity. Knowing that you’re over 25 countries all over the world, I vote for a world with our Movement everywhere and, that grow specifically your solidarity and evangelizing compromise with the most poor, caring for help to satisfy the hunger of bread and the hunger of God that is in the human’s heart.

I hope this 25th anniversary of your foundation renew in your care for your santity and your mission, orientated to the men and women to their destiny and helping them to develop fully the freedom as God’s sons and daughters.
With my bless, cordial greets in Christ,

Stanislaw Card. Rylko Presidente

25 years of fidelity to the Gospel

We celebrate 25 years of the constitution of the Claretian Seculars Movement and the approval of the Principles in Villa de Leyva (Columbia). That first assembly in 1983 ment “a great chance for following Jesus a through the compromise of building the Kingdom of God”. And stills being like that 25 years later. The Claretian Seculars keep on being Christians that try to make the mission of Jesus in the world our mission, we live the exigencies of the Kingdom and we give in the Church a service with the spirit of Claret, always in our secular identity .

The Principles still being nowadays an essential guide to answer our call. As the assembly of Florencia Varela wrote, “Its true that for the one who follows Jesus the only way of living is the Gospel. But the Principles is just a read of the Gospel and its radical exigencies, from the view of our vocation and mission; a read of all the Gospel where some details of the mission bounded with the Claretian Secular’s mission get more importance, which means the wish that God have of our work and our being in the Church by serving the Kingdom”.

After the two first assemblies, we’ve keep on working in this idea: going deeper in the service to the Word and its transforming action (Madrid, 1991), the Claretian Secular as contrast community (Campinas, 1995), the prophetic mission (Santo Domingo, 1999), our mission nowadays (Vic, 2003) and our spirituality (Mixco, 2007). Has been an important effort to decide the most urgent, opportune an useful for the expansion of the Kingdom, trying as Claret to pay attention on the signs in our time to give a right answer to the justice, peace and happiness of the man.

That’s a chance to renew our aim to evangelize. But for that first we have to have been really evangelized. The conversion and the change of life, personal, familiar and communitarian, is a must to get the evangelizing aim of the Christian. There is no evangelizing without a previous radical conversion, a transformation of the mind and the heart. . In the document of the Assembly of Guatemala “Formed in the forge of the Heart of Maria. A path for living the spirituality of the Claretian Secular today” we find the keys to, drinking of the sources of our spirituality be witness: “The experience of the fire is the experience of meeting with the God of life and history, that manifests his love in the world”.

Keeping our communities being evangelized and evangelizers requires a continuous attention in our formation, and the permanent option about the coherency of Christian life, to give a reason of our hope. We need to be witnesses in all our scenarios, to transform from inside all our realities: family, work, culture, economy, politics, arts, media, science, thoughts… And use all the modern ways on our hands to talk to the man of today in an actual language.

Is true that the Gospel has to be proclaimed at first place with our testimonies, but the Claretian Seculars can’t forget that, as baptized we have to announce the Word of Life: Jesus from Nazaret, Son of God, itself .

The communitarian dimension of the Principles stills being one of the alive pillars of the movement: add to the Kingdom means join the Universal Church, the great community of conversed that goes to convert everyone: “they have to know not only that they belong to the church, but they’re also the church under the guide of the Pope. Those are the Church”.

The internationality of the Movement helps us to feel the universality of the Church. Our communities in developed and poor countries helps us to have a more complete vision, to know as many problems as they have with justice, freedom, develop and world peace, which have to be bounded to our evangelizing mission. As Claret, the Charity of Christ hurries us to end the un-humanization of our world.

It’s time to thank. 25 years is a Young age for a Church movement. But we have to be conscientious that, in our poorness and limits, this is a Gift of God for the Church. Because our charisma is not the most important, even not the most famous, but is the one that the Spirit choose to give to the Church through us. That means the responsibility of approaching our talents, “You’re the salt of the earth. If the salt has no taste, What will be given back with the flavor?”.

It’s time of thank to our brothers and sisters in the way: Claretian Family, that teach, orientate and care as the brothers, and we share and care our treasure, the Claretian charisma.

We’re conscient that we got a gift by living the mother mystery of Maria inside Christ, which pushes us like in Pentecost to announce the Resurrected . This love and trust makes us walk with the happiness and the feeling of the one who’s in his mother arms.

We ask the help of Maria and San Antonio María Claret, to illuminate us in our evangelizing work, to transform the Claretian Seculars in rows that come into the world and take to the darkest places the Light of Christ.

In the name of the General Council, a fraternal hug in the Heart of Maria,

Constantino Rodríguez, sc
General Secretary

Claret had a dream

Claret had a dream: a great army of evangelizers, followers of the Word, sent to proclaim the freedom message of Jesus. The saint, wise and creative, knew how to read the signs of the times that he lived with precision and with a great intuition, feed by the Holy Spirit, aimed to empower the seculars to participate in the universal mission of the Church. He didn’t write much, but made a lot for the seculars. He created several institutions: Brothers of Maria’s Heart (1847), Brothers of the Christian Doctrine (1849), Saint Michel Academy (1856) and the popular Libraries (1864), with the already existing Brotherhood of Maria’s Heart …, spaces to develop the shy participation of the laics evangelizing.
After Claret death, the tragic facts of Spain extinct the fire that the seculars had through him.

But those ashes were feed by the Spirit, so any difficulty could erase them definitely.

The fire came little by little to warm the heart of the seculars. First joining them in the Claretian Colaborators, playing as third guild of the brotherhood, focused on the Gospel to convert afterwards in the Associated Claretians. It was still an add-on of the missioner action of the Claretian missioners and part of the congregation ( claretian seculars), but “not just like collaborators, but co-responsible in the same missioner action” . There was a log way to walk, but the international network of claretian seculars and the fraternity climate was beginning.
The fire of the II Vatican Council had to burn definitely in the seculars. The Claretian missioners opened our eyes with the message “Message of the XIX chapter to the Lay Claretians all over the world”, where we were cheered up to “walk in front of the history with our own strength”. The identity of the Claretian Secular was being created, in which we still have to go deeper.

In the II Congress of Lay Claretians of Villa de Leyva (Colombia) from 3 to 10 of July 1983, later considered as fundation and so, I General Assembly of the Lay Claretians. Previously, the work that was done was essential, the Principles, made by P. Antonio Vidales , and later on, studied and revised in several meetings of seculars. After a few days of work, “the Thursday 7 they worked in 3 blocks the parts of the Principles. The work was quite hard, but interesting. The time was not enough and we had to delay a meeting” for the next day.”Also that was hard, at 3.08 p.m. of 8 of July the firs Principles and Organization of the Lay Claretians was approved, decision that was celebrated with joy and applauses”.

Four years later, in the II General Assembly of Florencio Varela (Argentina) the definitive Principle was approved, separating there the organization (that became to the Status of the movement) and 20 april 1988 the movement was approved for the Movement for the Pontificious Council of Laics.
